Our hosts, Eric and Sue, were very welcoming and hospitable. Eric was very helpful in providing some really great advice for getting the most of our short stay in the Acadia region. If you want a place that is slightly off the beaten path, yet still very accessible to Mt. Desert Island and the rest of the Acadia NP, this is it. The rooms were spotless, and nicely appointed. The breakfasts Sue prepared were top-notch, and I appreciated the early availability of fresh coffee and the chilled water in the upstairs refrigerator -- very nice touches. The property grounds, with its ponds, berry vines, and garden areas, is just lovely. Lamoine Beach (public) is a short 1/2 mile walk -- get there early to photograph the beautiful sunrise over the bay.
Incredible! This isn't like a hotel where you get checked into a cookie-cutter room with no personality, this is like visiting a relative. All of the rooms have their own distinct charms and even the quilts in each room were handmade. Sue and Eric are amazing hosts and really make you feel welcomed. The breakfast is homemade and always delicious. I have Celiac disease and they were more than accommodating when preparing meals. I would highly recommend this location to anyone travelling in the area. I've been with my girlfriend twice already and we'll probably keep coming back!
This is a great escape from reality. The atmosphere is very calm and relaxed with a cool wind coming from the pond right outside of the house and the beach situated just a half mile down the road. The beach down the street is a great place to go and watch the hours pass, and when low tide hits marine life can be found throughout the rocks. The food is fantastic, from homemade waffles topped with fresh fruit to a variety of muffins. It is a home away from home and a worthwhile trip!
This is the perfect place to go to escape from it all. As soon as you walk in, the aroma of sweet treats makes you feel at home. The overall look and feel of this b&b is comforting and welcoming. While I think the breakfasts and cookies are one of the highlights, the beds come in a close second- it will be the BEST night sleep you ever get! The location is also perfect- half a mile walk to the beach and about a 20 minute car ride away from acadia and bar harbor, which to me is perfect- provides escape from the hustle and bustle! I have and will recommend this to all of my friends!
From the moment Sue and Eric, the B&B owners and keepers, opened the door, we knew we had made the right choice. My girlfriend and I had been hemming and hawing over whether we should spend a night in or outside of Bar Harbor before camping in Acadia National Park for several days. Sue and Eric's warm hospitality and kindness struck us from the very beginning of our stay and continued to grow throughout its duration, confirming our hunch that removing ourselves from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor and staying in a home -- Sue and Eric's place is truly a home away from home -- would be our best bet. After cleaning up in a beautiful private bathroom, which was much needed after spending two days in a lean-to in (the unusually rainy) Baxter State Park, my girlfriend and I enjoyed walking to the beach to watch (a dry!) sunset and a few late but nonetheless wonderful firework displays at Sue and Eric's recommendation. The beach is a short half-mile walk from the Chocolate Chip B&B and an idyllic rocky Maine coastline to sit in serenity. Before heading to bed, Eric helped me -- for well over a half-hour -- plan our four-day adventure in Acadia. He had many good suggestions and made our stay in Acadia an incredible experience. Sue put a plate of chocolate chip cookies in our room as a bedtime snack, which made a nice end to my day, as I have a sweet tooth! We slept very well -- perhaps the best I have slept in any B&B or inn to date -- in a cool, cozy and well decorated room overlooking the pond and beautiful gardening outside of Sue and Eric's place. The next morning, my girlfriend, an early bird, enjoyed sipping many cups of tea, which she brewed using the Keurig machine on the first floor. When I awoke, I read in the sunlit and spacious common space on the first floor until Sue and Eric served a DELICIOUS breakfast of scrambled egg casserole with veggies, white chocolate parfait, and homemade blueberry muffins. I always rely on chocolate chips as a dependable ingredient to rejuvenate and energize myself; my girlfriend and I were VERY glad we followed this instinct (read: stomach) to the Chocolate Chip B&B! We fully intend to return on our next adventure to the Maine coastline.
